My first try in matte painting. Filling the city with houses and streets was a torture but after all my Photoshop workflow has become much faster now ;) And I have noticed that creating a rough sketch and fleshing it out it with believable details are two completely different things. Anyway, I hope somebody likes it... :)

By the way, for those who are interested in the process - here are some steps:

Damn, that is so well done. I was going to say it looks like the city took forever, especially the streets in between each building and filling up each block to look believable. It all looks so good though, not realistic in a sense but proffesional in a fantasy light. The addtion of the volcaneo really draws attention away from the city and feels like it is supposed to be the focal point. But that large chunky building in front of it somewhat ruins the flow of the landscape, maybe if it were scaled down?
Aside from that the whole background work is beautiful. The sky and sea is gorgeous take in.
That's awesome. Is this a "modern pompei"?

An excellent piece, and well worth the time you put into it. Since, i'm admiring it in less than 3 seconds to pull up the image. lol

Wow man, really love this one. Great city design and overall mood, keep up the good work :)
wow... Great! nice details.. Great atmosphere. hmm.. but im not sure about the roads and the buildings..... they look kinda boring =(
I think that a little spaceship and some movement in the city would make it even better.. ;)
