I feel like he is standing in the shade under some stairs in the sun, in an open air stadium, or something. Lots of sun coming in through the openings in front of him. I would love it more if the arrow was not there. Did you use a photo texture for the background?

Yay, texture work is done with the help of a photo set to "soft light". I know, it's a cheap trick but it can give good variation practically without any effort... ;)
